Product Overview

The S55 in the M2 Competition is the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six found in the M3 F80 and M4 F82.The same M engine is fitted to a shorter, lighter body than the M3 / M4. That single fact is what makes the M2 Competition special. The 7,600rpm ceiling and the clean rev-out despite forced induction are pure S55 as well. The factory exhaust, though, is designed to deliberately suppress sound pressure through its silencers. The engine has the character, but the exhaust note alone falls short. This is the source of the first thing that feels lacking on the M2 Competition.

TODOROKI™ VALVE RS replaces everything downstream of the catalytic converterQuad-exit cat-back system.Combining a Z-pipe with an equal-length mid-pipe, an electronically controlled valve switches the volume.Factory-equivalent quiet with the valve closed, and the S55's true top-end pull and volume when openrestoring it.

A configuration that's first in Japan

Z-pipe, equal-length mid-pipe, valved exhaust. As a domestic aftermarket product, an exhaust for the BMW M2 Competition F87 that combines all three of these isThis is a first-of-its-kind configuration.

Each individual element exists elsewhere. Some products have a valved exhaust, and others advertise an equal-length design. However,As far as we could find, no product achieves all three at once. The structure is explained below.

As of July 2026, BIMMER+ research (covering aftermarket products for the M2 Competition available in Japan).

Z-pipe + equal-length mid-pipe × valved exhaust

The mid-pipe on the TODOROKI™ VALVE RS cross-connects the left and right exhaust pathsZ-pipe. The instant one side exhausts, that flow creates a depression inside the pipe. Cross the two sides and the depression pulls gas out of the other bank. That is the scavenging effect.

Unlike simply enlarging the pipe diameter to gain flow, you can extend high-rpm flow without losing low- and mid-range torqueThis is the essence of the Z-pipe. The extra thickness in the low end that comes from momentarily merging the left and right exhaust streams is a by-product unique to this design.

And with TODOROKI™, this Z-pipeEqual-length Mid-pipe. If the Z-pipe is the structure that connects left to right, equal-length is the design that aligns when each side's gas reaches the junction. Unequal path lengths put the exhaust pulses out of phase, and scavenging will not work as intended however you cross them. Equally, matching the lengths alone achieves nothing if the two sides are never joined — there is nothing there to draw against.Equal-length and the Z-pipe are a combination that isn't complete with just one or the other.

If pure exhaust efficiency is your only goal, this is the most rational configuration.however, since the mid-pipe has no sound-damping element, the volume stays constant at all timesis a weakness here — whether driving through a residential neighbourhood or starting the engine early in the morning, the volume never changes.

The valved exhaust is what solves this.

  • Valve closed: A quiet path that runs through the centre exhaust. Volume drops to near-factory levels, so it won't be an issue when driving in residential areas or starting the car early in the morning
  • Valve open: The straight path opens up, maximising exhaust efficiency

Exhaust efficiency and quietness are normally a trade-off, but a design that switches the flow path itself lets you have both.Release exhaust — shaped by the Z-pipe and equal-length design — only when needed. Because the mid-pipe has no silencing structure by design, the difference between valve open and closed is larger.

You can choose the valve control method

This productElectronically controlled valve (remote-operated) as standard. If you'd like it changed to link with the factory valve, please contact us before purchase.

Method Operation Who This Is For
Electronically controlled valveStandard Included Remote For those who want to control volume at any time, independent of the drive mode. This operates independently on the exhaust side
Factory valve-linked Drive Mode Opens only when SPORT or SPORT+ is selected, for those who want factory-equivalent behaviour. No extra operation required

Whichever method you choose,Please be sure to let us know at the time of purchase. Specifications are locked in during production, so changes cannot be made afterward.

How the Sound Changes
  • Equal-length Mid-pipe: A design that equalises the path length on both sides. Because the exhaust pulse phasing aligns, the sound stays clean as revs rise, extending clearly right through the high-rpm range
  • Z-pipe: cross-connects the left and right paths. The depression created as one side exhausts is put to work by the other, producing a scavenging effect. Flow improves without the usual loss of mid-range torque, and the note gains body at the bottom end
  • Silencer Internal Structure: packed with heat-resistant stainless wool and sound-absorbing fibre. Compared with ordinary glass wool it degrades far less under heat, so silencing performance holds up over the long term. The quiet you get with the valve closed rests on this internal structure
  • Centre exhaust: A single silencer is positioned at the centre of the car. With the valve closed, exhaust routes through it for sound suppression; when open, it's bypassed
  • Electronically controlled valve: switches the exhaust path just before the silencer. Closed, gas runs the quiet route through the silencer; open, it takes the straight path — so volume and character change together
  • Quad-exit: Exhaust exits through four tips, two on each side. This configuration secures exhaust efficiency while achieving an appearance befitting an M model
  • Cat-back Structure: The factory catalytic converter is left in place, replacing only the section downstream of it. As it uses the factory hanger positions, no modification to the vehicle is required
Design based on 3D scanning

Exhaust fitment precision is determined by the actual car, not by drawings. TODOROKI™'s unit for the M2 Competition F87,Designed from 3D scan data of an actual car's underbody. Factory hanger positions, floor geometry and clearance to the rear bumper aperture are all pinned down from measured values, so it fits without modifying the car.

Welding isFully TIG-welded at high temperature. The base material is SUS304 stainless steel at a full 1.5mm wall thickness. An exhaust takes heat and vibration continuously, so the quality of every joint is the durability of the system.

Pairing with the S55

In the S55, two turbos each serve three cylinders. Gas leaving the left and right banks passes through separate turbines before flowing downstream. How to align and connect exhaust that's been processed separately on the left and right. This is where both the equal-length design and the Z-pipe pay off.

A straight-six also fires at even intervals, so first- and second-order vibrations cancel each other naturally. Being able to raise sound pressure without touching that smoothness is the single biggest reason to pair a free-flowing exhaust with a straight-six.In the M2 Competition, which carries the same S55 in a lighter, shorter body than the M3/M4, changes to the exhaust are easier to feelThis is also an advantage.

How to choose a grade
Grade Price What's Included, and Who It's For
TODOROKI™ S ¥189,800 A configuration with no valve. Always open, for those who don't need to switch volume
TODOROKI™ VALVE RS ¥279,800 This item. Z-pipe + equal-length design, 4 tips. SUS304 stainless steel. Choose from 7 tip finishes
TODOROKI™ VALVE RS TITANIUM ¥349,800 Grade 5 titanium. A thinner 1.2mm wall than stainless and roughly half the density add up to a substantial weight saving. Two mid-pipe configurations, five titanium finishes

VALVE RS and TITANIUMShares the same valve mechanism and vehicle fitment. If the weight saving, the change in note and the way the heat colouring develops over time are what you value, look at TITANIUM. If you have no need for a valve, look at S.

The Thinking Behind TODOROKI™ RS

RS is a grade designed around one standard: no compromise on price, quality, or sound. The silencer body features the TODOROKI™ logo. If we are going to put our name on it, it goes on every product regardless of price point. Costs that contribute nothing to performance or sound are not carried; that money goes into material, construction and the price.

Focusing exclusively on BMW lets us share jigs and validation processes across products, and reading demand chassis by chassis removes the losses that come with small-batch production. Optimising every stage — administration, manufacturing and shipping — is what makes this price possible.

Fitment

BMW M2 Competition F87 (S55)Purpose-built design.

Does not fit the N55-powered M2 (up to 2018). A separate product is available for the M2 (N55).

BIMMER+ organises its collections by chassis code. Search from your own chassis and only the parts that fit will appear. Model year, trim and prior modifications may mean some adjustment is needed at fitting, so please ask before you buy if anything is unclear.

Pricing and Shipping

The listed priceShipping, customs duties, and customs clearance fees are all included. There are no additional costs after the product arrives.

Exhausts are bulky and heavy, and shipping alone runs to around ¥20,000. Some sellers bill freight and domestic forwarding separately from the product price; BIMMER+ quotes one all-inclusive figure.

After Your Purchase

After your purchase, be sure to"Vehicle model / year / VIN" via our contact form. Even if you do not want any customisation, please still get in touch so we can identify your car.

About Installation

Removing and fitting an exhaust requires specialist tools and a lift. We strongly recommend installation by a qualified workshop or specialist. Wiring for the valve controller is also involved, so if you are not confident about fitting it yourself, please use a professional.

On cars with a factory valve, removing it may trigger a warning light. If that happens, a canceller or similar solution will be required.

About Lead Time

As these are built to order, shipping after order confirmation typically takes2–4 weeks. Customisation, production and logistics can push this beyond the stated period. If you are working to a deadline, talk to us before ordering.
