The S55 is a 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight-six — the M engine that preceded the S58, fitted to the M3 F80 and M4 F82/F83. It combines a 7,600rpm limit with a rev-out that stays clean despite forced induction. The factory exhaust, though, is designed to deliberately suppress sound pressure through its silencers.The engine has the character, but the exhaust note alone falls short. This is the source of the first disappointment most owners notice on the F80 / F82.

The TODOROKI™ VALVE RS Z-Pipe Equal-Length is a 4-tip cat-back system that replaces everything after the catalytic converter.Combining a Z-pipe with an equal-length mid-pipeswitches volume via an electronically controlled valve. This is the approach TODOROKI™ has used on the G8X and M2 CompetitionA grade that brings the Z-pipe equal-length structure to the F8X.

In the S55, two turbos each serve three cylinders. Gas leaving the left and right banks passes through separate turbines before flowing downstream.Where and how to bring together exhaust that's been processed separately on each side. This is what determines the sound quality.

This product's mid-pipe isEqual-length Design. Matching the left and right path lengths means the exhaust pulses reach the junction together. Leave them unequal and they arrive out of step, the pulses cancel each other and the note muddies.

Into that,Z-pipeis added. This design crosses the left and right paths once, equalising the pressure difference before they merge.Gain flow without losing low- and mid-range torque. The equal-length design and the Z-pipe are a combination that doesn't work with just one or the other.

And this structure has a weakness that would normally be unavoidable.The more flow you gain, the louder it getsThat's the situation. A valve is what resolves this.

• Valve closed: A quiet path that routes through the silencer. Volume drops to near-factory levels, so it's suitable for driving through residential areas or starting the car early in the morning
• Valve open: The path opens up, maximising the exhaust efficiency of the Z-pipe equal-length structure

Exhaust efficiency and quietness are normally a trade-off, but a design that switches the flow path itself lets you have both.Releasing the exhaust efficiency secured by the equal-length design and Z-pipe only when needed. It's precisely because this combination works that refining the structure is worthwhile.

• Equal-length Mid-pipe: matching the left and right path lengths brings the exhaust pulses into step. With nothing cancelling out, the note stays clean and keeps its core
• Z-pipe: Crosses the left and right paths to equalise the pressure difference before they merge. A structure that maintains low-to-mid-range torque while securing flow
• Silencer Internal Structure: packed with heat-resistant stainless wool and sound-absorbing fibre. Compared with ordinary glass wool it degrades far less under heat, so silencing performance holds up over the long term. The quiet you get with the valve closed rests on this internal structure
• Electronically controlled valve: switches the exhaust path just before the silencer. Closed, gas runs the quiet route through the silencer; open, it takes the free path — so volume and character change together
• Quad-exit: The same twin-per-side configuration as factory. Changes only the sound, without altering the appearance
• Cat-back Structure: The factory catalytic converter is left in place, replacing only the section downstream of it. As it uses the factory hanger positions, no modification to the vehicle is required

Fitment accuracy for an exhaust is determined by the actual car, not the drawings. For the TODOROKI™ F80 / F82 / F83 version,Designed from 3D scan data of an actual car's underbody. Factory hanger positions, floor geometry and clearance to the rear bumper aperture are all pinned down from measured values, so it fits without modifying the car.

Welding isFully TIG-welded at high temperature. The base material is SUS304 stainless steel at a full 1.5mm wall thickness. An exhaust takes heat and vibration continuously, so the quality of every joint is the durability of the system.

Removing and fitting an exhaust requires specialist tools and a lift. We strongly recommend installation by a qualified workshop or specialist. Wiring for the valve controller is also involved, so if you are not confident about fitting it yourself, please use a professional.

On cars with a factory valve, removing it may trigger a warning light. If that happens, a canceller or similar solution will be required.

As these are built to order, shipping after order confirmation typically takes2–4 weeks. Customisation, production and logistics can push this beyond the stated period. If you are working to a deadline, talk to us before ordering.
