Product Overview

The S65 is a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated V8.The E9x M3 was the last naturally aspirated M engine to rev to 8,300rpm. Now that forced induction is the norm, no M3 will ever rev out like this again. The factory exhaust, though, is designed to deliberately suppress sound pressure through its silencers. You're not experiencing the V8's revs through sound. This is the source of the first thing that feels lacking on the E90 / E92 / E93 M3.

The TODOROKI™ VALVE RS Dual Z-Pipe replaces everything after the catalytic converterQuad-exit cat-back system.A mid-pipe that cross-connects the left and right banks at two pointspairs this with an electronically controlled valve.Factory-equivalent quiet with the valve closed, and the S65's true high-rev sound when openrestoring it.

Japan's first dual Z-pipe

The left and right banksThe "Dual Z-pipe," cross-connected at two points. As far as domestic aftermarket exhausts for the E90 / E92 / E93 M3 with this configuration,This is a first.

Some products have a Z-pipe, and others connect left and right with an X-pipe. However,As far as we could find, no product increases the number of cross-connection points to two.We have not found the same configuration even when searching English-language product information.

As of July 2026, BIMMER+ research (covering aftermarket products for the E90, E92 and E93 M3 available in Japan; overseas products researched through English-language product information).

Dual Z-pipe × Valved

The S65V8. Each bank handles four cylinders and the exhaust runs independently down each side. Nothing converges into a single path the way it does on a straight-six.Where — and how many times — to join the two independent systems. V8 exhaust design comes down to this point.

The principle behind cross-connection is this. The instant one side exhausts, that flow creates a depression inside the pipe. Join the two sides and the depression pulls gas out of the other bank. That is scavenging.

A typical X-pipe places this connection pointOne point. The dual Z-pipeTwo locations. With two connection points, scavenging works in two stages,It draws out exhaust pulses that a single crossing point can't fully capture. The more completely independent the left and right exhaust systems are — as with a V8 — the more the number of rejoins matters.

As a result, unlike simply enlarging the pipe, you can extend high-rpm flow without losing low- and mid-range torqueWith the left and right exhaust merging twice, the low end gains more depth.

If pure exhaust efficiency is your only goal, this is the most rational configuration.however, since the mid-pipe has no sound-damping element, the volume stays constant at all timesis a weakness here — whether driving through a residential neighbourhood or starting the engine early in the morning, the volume never changes.

The valved exhaust is what solves this.

  • Valve closed: A quiet path that runs through the centre exhaust. Volume drops to near-factory levels, so it won't be an issue when driving in residential areas or starting the car early in the morning
  • Valve open: The straight path opens up, maximising exhaust efficiency

Exhaust efficiency and quietness are normally a trade-off, but a design that switches the flow path itself lets you have both.Releasing the exhaust refined by the dual Z-pipe only when needed. Because the mid-pipe has no silencing structure by design, the difference between valve open and closed is larger.

How the Sound Changes
  • Dual Z-pipe: cross-connects the two banks at two separate points. The depression created as one side exhausts is put to work by the other, and it works in two stages. Flow improves without the usual loss of mid-range torque, and the note gains body at the bottom end
  • Centre exhaust: A single silencer is positioned at the centre of the car. With the valve closed, exhaust routes through it for sound suppression; when open, it's bypassed
  • Electronically controlled valve: switches the exhaust path just before the silencer. Closed, gas runs the quiet route through the silencer; open, it takes the straight path — so volume and character change together
  • Quad-exit: Exhaust exits through four tips, two on each side. This configuration secures exhaust efficiency while achieving an appearance befitting an M model
  • Cat-back Structure: The factory catalytic converter is left in place, replacing only the section downstream of it. As it uses the factory hanger positions, no modification to the vehicle is required
Design based on 3D scanning

Exhaust fitment precision is determined by the actual car, not by drawings. TODOROKI™'s unit for the E90 / E92 / E93 M3,Designed from 3D scan data of an actual car's underbody. Factory hanger positions, floor geometry and clearance to the rear bumper aperture are all pinned down from measured values, so it fits without modifying the car.

Welding isFully TIG-welded at high temperature. The base material is SUS304 stainless steel, with a wall thickness of 1.5 mm. The surface isMirror FinishAs the dual Z-pipe sits in the most visible spot on the underside of the car, we've also refined the finish where it can be seen.

Pairing with the S65

The S65 is naturally aspirated.Without a turbo acting as a damping element in between, the sound of the combustion chamber travels almost directly into the exhaust pipe. On a turbocharged car, part of the exhaust energy goes into spinning the turbine and the note rounds off with it. A naturally aspirated engine has none of that. Change the exhaust and the change arrives, undiluted, as sound.

What's more, unlike a straight-six, a V8 has no structure that naturally cancels out primary vibration. The exhaust from the left and right banksHow they're connected determines the very quality of the sound. This is where the dual Z-pipe pays off. It brings out the S65's high-rev range, which spins to 8,300rpm, in terms of sound.

How to choose a grade
Grade Price What's Included, and Who It's For
TODOROKI™ VALVE RS X-pipe ¥219,800 A configuration that cross-connects the two banks at a single point. For those who want the scavenging effect while keeping the price down
TODOROKI™ VALVE RS Dual Z-pipe ¥299,800 This product. Japan's first configuration to cross-connect the left and right banks at two points. Scavenging works in two stages. Made from SUS304 stainless steel
TODOROKI™ VALVE RS TITANIUM Dual Z-pipe ¥399,800 The same structure built in full titanium. About half the density of stainless steel cuts weight, and the sound gains the higher-frequency character unique to titanium. Choose from 5 titanium finishes

The difference from the X-pipe is the number of cross-connection points; the difference from TITANIUM is the material. A single X-pipe delivers scavenging perfectly well, but the twin-crossing dual Z-pipe pushes further still. If you also want the weight saving and the heat-coloured finish, look at the full-titanium TITANIUM.

The Thinking Behind TODOROKI™ RS

RS is a grade designed around one standard: no compromise on price, quality, or sound. The silencer body features the TODOROKI™ logo. If we are going to put our name on it, it goes on every product regardless of price point. Costs that contribute nothing to performance or sound are not carried; that money goes into material, construction and the price.

Focusing exclusively on BMW lets us share jigs and validation processes across products, and reading demand chassis by chassis removes the losses that come with small-batch production. Optimising every stage — administration, manufacturing and shipping — is what makes this price possible.

Fitment

BMW M3 E90 / E92 / E93 (S65, 4.0L V8)Purpose-built design. Fits the sedan (E90), coupe (E92), and convertible (E93) alike.

It does not fit non-M3 E9x models, such as the straight-six 335i, so please take note.

BIMMER+ organises its collections by chassis code. Search from your own chassis and only the parts that fit will appear. Model year, trim and prior modifications may mean some adjustment is needed at fitting, so please ask before you buy if anything is unclear.

Pricing and Shipping

The listed priceShipping, customs duties, and customs clearance fees are all included. There are no additional costs after the product arrives.

Exhausts are bulky and heavy, and shipping alone runs to around ¥20,000. Some sellers bill freight and domestic forwarding separately from the product price; BIMMER+ quotes one all-inclusive figure.

After Your Purchase

After your purchase, be sure to"Vehicle model / year / VIN" via our contact form. Even if you do not want any customisation, please still get in touch so we can identify your car.

About Installation

Removing and fitting an exhaust requires specialist tools and a lift. We strongly recommend installation by a qualified workshop or specialist. Wiring for the valve controller is also involved, so if you are not confident about fitting it yourself, please use a professional.

On cars with a factory valve, removing it may trigger a warning light. If that happens, a canceller or similar solution will be required.

About Lead Time

As these are built to order, shipping after order confirmation typically takes2–4 weeks. Customisation, production and logistics can push this beyond the stated period. If you are working to a deadline, talk to us before ordering.
